This Old House

Just so you will know this is a true story and that I really was there I went ahead and posted a picture of myself on the porch of "This Old House". As you can see in the background the porch is littered with pieces of wood and what you can't see is that some of this litter is pieces of gingerbread trim that had fallen off the top part of the porch.  My heart still flutters when I look at this picture and see what a treasure is in the woods of deep East Texas.

The old Cadillac is still parked in the front yard just as if it is parked waiting to take a road trip.  I am told by my sweet husband that this is  a 1960 model luxury car.  The most fabulous thing about "This Old House" is that it is completely filled with furniture!!! The kind  of  furniture that those of us who would die for an old shabby (with the horse hair showing) sofa is still setting  in the the living room.. It looks to me as if this was probably a house of distinction!! Oh what a shame!

This is a place we can look at and wish "what if" but  until that happens why don't we just think about what we do have and what we can do with it.  I can help you decorate the one you are living in now!! Just call me at the number on our home page.  Also, another opportunity to fill your home with the kind of treasures that will make you sing a new song is to meet us at the "Urban Market Antique Houston Antique  Show" which will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11 and Sunday Feb. 12.  The hours are from 3-6 pm on Saturday and 9a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.  The address is 9401 Knight Road, Houston, TX  77045.  I know we will see you there.

Girls With Plans.....

The girls have all gathered and are thinking about where they are going shopping!! Yes, this is the time to do some serious shopping because of all the sales going on.  I can't bring myself to get out and do that because we were so busy before Christmas I just want to sit back and do nothing!! Well, that is impossible but I choose not to get out in the crowds and fight for something I really don't need just because it is on sale. I am really not a bargain shopper.  I need to be but I don't like it.

We are getting geared up for the "Red Barn" show which will be the 14th and 15th of January.  We will be doing more shows as the years begins!! After the Red Barn we go to Urban Market which is at a new location in Houston.  I will give you more info on that later.  We are excited about the new year.  There will be changes coming but they are all good.  The Dolly Johnson show is the first of March in Fort Worth and then right behind that is Marburger.  As you can see we are going to be busy but hope to run into you along the way.  We hope to add some new things here at Hackberry Farms in between those shows so keep your eye open and we will let you know in plenty time to get it on your calendar.

If you are not a part of the Facebook community you need to get busy and join us.  I post at least one pic a day and sometimes more.  I try to include ideas for decorating in those posts..

See you at a show near you or maybe not so near!!!!!

Garden Christmas at Hackberry Hill Farm

I could not think of a better way to do an official "Garden Christmas" post than with a picture of  one of the Christmas trees included in our  show which will be this Saturday, Dec. 3 here at "Hackberry Hill Farm".  The time of the show is from 10 a.m. til' 5 p.m. or when everyone has gone home. We sent out some invitations but if you did not get one you are welcome to come.  You will need to call for directions if you don't know the way.  Our number is shown on the home page of our website. Be sure and don't forget your stickers when you enter the door so you will be able just to place one on the items you want to buy. Just make sure you want what you place a sticker on or someone will come and get you in a padded wagon if your name is found on an item after you are gone!! There will be a few people taking pictures because they have been given permission prior to the show. Thanks for following that one little rule of not taking pictures.

This show is so exciting for Billy and I!! We  are so blessed to have so many wonderful people who continually come to our little part of  getting the holiday season off to a good start. Bring a friend with you. We want you to have a fun time and don't be surprised who you might see. See up Saturday!!

"A Garden Christmas"

Yes, I know it has been 2 months since I have posted anything on my blog.  I am so sorry but I have a good reason.  I have been totally focused on making this "Garden Christmas" the very best that I can possibly do.  I hope you aren't disappointed. The pic above is in the kitchen and I had to fight "Mr. Billy" to be able to sell this set.  There are two chairs that go with this.  Well, there really is more but this is what I have put in the kitchen.  It is so comfortable and you can easily change the cushions to fit your decor. I have posted some pics on facebook so it you are set up to work facebook then go in and look.  Friend me on Judy Taylor Hill if you would like to see what is there. I hope you didn't give up on me posting any new pictures but I would like to promise to do better!! See you on Dec. 3.   You know to be here promptly at 10 a.m. or you might miss that special treasure.

A Time To Reflect

A big portion of my  junking friends are smack dab in the middle of getting ready for the biggest show that we do all year, During this time we are focused on trying to do the very best we can to take advantage of all possibilities that are offered to us at the show we have chosen to take part in.  We will be set up at the Marburger Farms Show in Tent A, Booth 8. Although I have been very busy getting things ready I have been able to reflect on some areas in my home that are peaceful.

A quiet window with soft lighting that  will calm any anxious feeling that I may have.

A window in my laundry room that causes me to stop and think about what the day has in store for me.

Windows across the back of our family room that makes me want to take a short break from chores and smell the roses (hydrangeas)

Baby bed where precious babies have not a care in the world
This bed also shows the bedding we designed and have made for your precious babies.

The window at the head of our bed in the master bedroom. The place where any problems I might have are discarded for a restful nights sleep

A simple table in the sitting room off the kitchen. A nice place to have a chat with a good friend.

Bathroom where a bath takes care of tired muscles
(Shower curtain is also our design)

I would also like to hear about places in your home that calm frustrations and remind you of the many blessings that are yours for the asking!!

Repurposing Motivations

If you really want to get motivated you need to check out the Junkmarket Under Glass Extravaganza that we have been talking about. It is coming up on September 7 - 10. Taking old items and using them in a new way is like finding them all over again. You will get your chance, to not only get motivated, but find those one of a kind items we all love. This event is hosted by renowned author Sue Whitney and Otten Bros Garden and Landscape Center in Long Lake Mn.

Repurposing can be taking an old bee hive and making a light fixture.

Repurposing can be relocating an inside cabinet to a porch for use as a plant holder.

Repurposing can be an old iron porch swing used as a love seat in a bedroom.

Oh before I forget it is a must that you go to U Tube and search for Sue Whitney at Marburger Farms Weddings Part 1 and Part 2. You just might see someone you know.

Taking time to give thanks

Most of us know who truly deserves our thanks. There is so many different things going on in our lives from day to day we seem to forget to take the time to voice that thanks.  I hope you will stop just a minute and give thanks for just a few of the things we take so for granted.

Thanks you for my family
Thank you for my health

Thank you for my freedom

Thank you for giving your life for me
